Where were you when the world stopped turning?

Have you heard that Alan Jackson song? If not, YouTube it. It's pretty powerful.

So, where were you when the world stopped turning?

I remember my upstairs neighbour calling me to tell me to turn on the TV. And then I watched, in horror, for HOURS as the whole thing unfolded.

I remember calling my DH and telling him and then having him telling me that it had to be a small plane that had flown of course because there must have been something wrong with the pilot. He was SURE there was no way anyone would deliberately fly into the WTC. Then the second plane hit...

I remember watching (because you just couldn't stop) as another plane hit the pentagon and while still a fourth crashed into the ground.

I remember sitting with my mouth hanging open as the WTC towers collapsed.

I remember not realizing that I was crying and somehow being unable to stop.

I remember the quiet eeriness outside in the days following as there were NO planes flying overhead.

I remember...and I will NEVER forget.

Shaving Cream - Photo a Day, June 29th

Scott was shaving today, and Jonathan got this:

Now, to the casual observer, this is just a kid with shaving cream on his nose and ears. To me, it's a childhood memory.

Scott doesn't remember dates all that well (can never remember if we were married on August 30th or 31st, just that it was near the end of the month; for the record, it was the 31st), but he remembers the really important stuff.

He remembers that I told him how when I was a little girl, my sister and I used to sit in the bathroom and watch my dad shave. He remembers that I told him how my dad used to wash the remnants of shaving cream off his face but ALWAYS left some on his ears. He remembers how I told him that my dad used to pretend my sister and I didn't know what we were talking about when we tried to tell him that there was STILL shaving cream on his ears. He remembers that I told him how my sister and I were practically screaming ourselves hoarse and laughing so hard before my dad would say, "OH! That shaving cream!"

And THAT is why Jonathan came out of the bathroom looking the way he did today. Love that man of mine!

The Apple Blossom Story

Someone special read my blog yesterday and she asked about the "Apple Blossom" that gets signed along with my name after each post. I gave her a brief description in an email, but decided I needed to tell the story in a layout. Here it is:

Thanks again for stopping by! Have a great day!

Tried to create yesterday...

...but wasn't in the right frame of mind. So for a daily something today, you get a piece of a story...a memory...because after all, it's my blog and I can do whatever the heck I want - MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

We had gone to the mall (can't remember for what) and he said he had to get something and he would meet up with me in a few minutes...and off he went. On the way back home, he asked if I wanted to come over to his place to wash the car. Sure, no problem...

After the car was clean, he asked me to look in the glove box for the tire gauge. The glove box was locked (odd) so I asked him for the key. I opened the glove box and there was a little brown box in there...not sure if I was supposed to see it or not I hesitated, only briefly, before asking, "Ummm...there's a little brown box in here?" He played dumb and asked "What little brown box", till I finally took the little brown box out and said, "THIS brown box!" "OH! THAT brown box", he said...UGH! Freaking genius...I asked him what was in the brown box and he told me to open it and see.

And there, at that VERY moment, for the first time EVER in my whole entire life...I was speechless...you should probably write it down in your calendar...the date was July 7th, 1989
